Those of us who live here appreciate the convenience of 'big city' living in a 'small town' atmosphere. If residents want to enjoy a night at the theater, Sacramento, California's capital, offers ballet, symphonies, theater and an exciting nightlife. The smaller towns around Sacramento have local theaters that offer close to home entertainment.

The American River and Sacramento River feed the reservoirs and lakes surrounding the many foothill communities. You can water ski, sail and fish on the reservoirs and lakes or have a more quite time fly fishing on the many smaller rivers and streams. Hiking, biking, horseback riding in the Sierra Foothills, snow skiing in the Tahoe basin, visiting antique shops in the small gold rush towns along Highway 49.

Visiting the wineries in Placer, Nevada, El Dorado and Amador counties, dinning in fine restaurants, enjoying a round of golf, driving to San Francisco or Lake Tahoe to see the beauty of those areas are all part of enjoying life here in the foothills.

The many events throughout the year provide close to home excursions. The Mandarin Festival, The Eggplant Festival, Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Festival of Lights Parade for Christmas, 4th of July Fireworks in the parks, home shows at the Fairgrounds, Auburn's Black and White Ball, the weekly Farmers' Markets, Antique Fair in Auburn, Old Time Christmas celebrations in Auburn and Nevada City and the Cornish Christmas in Grass Valley, Nevada City Mardi Gras, Coloma Gold Discovery Day, Cruise Nights and the Autumn Art Studios Tour are some of the favorite activities for all.
